Rescatados más de 3.000 inmigrantes en las últimas 48 horas en el Canal de Sicilia

Más de 3.000 inmigrantes han sido rescatados en las últimas 48 horas en el Canal de Sicilia en 24 operaciones, según la Guardia Costera que coordina los rescates en esta zona del Mediterráneo. Se prevé que el número aumente ya que durante la madrugada y esta mañana se están llevando a cabo más rescates.

En las operaciones del fin de semana han participado unidades de la Guardia Costera, la misión europea Eunavformed y barcos de diferentes Organizaciones No Gubernamentales (ONGs).

El buque Dattilo de la Guardia Costera rescató a 1.477 personas, que desembarcarán en las próximas horas en el puerto de Augusta, en Sicilia. Durante la noche del sábado al domingo, el barco Aquarius de la ONG Sos Mediterranee y de Médicos sin Fronteras rescató a 946 personas que se encontraban a la deriva en siete lanchas neumáticas y dos pateras y esperan llegar mañana al puerto de Catania.

En lo que va de año, 15.852 inmigrantes han sido salvados de morir ahogados en aguas del Mediterráneo, lo que supone un 67 % más que en el mismo periodo del año anterior, según los datos del Ministerio del Interior italiano.

El número de personas que tratan de llegar a Europa no cesa y el Gobierno italiano calcula que en este año llegarán a Italia 250.000 inmigrantes, 70.000 más que en el pasado año, informa EFE.
